LEGO Skylines Announcement
What Opening Night Live actually confirmed on 25 August 2026 — and what it left as a slogan.
Paradox Interactive, Iceflake Studios, and the LEGO Group announced LEGO Skylines at gamescom Opening Night Live on 25 August 2026. The tagline is “build a city where everything just clicks.” The genre is a cozy, customizable city-builder. The platforms are Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The date is unannounced.
If you watched the official trailer and felt like you missed a gameplay showcase, you did not. The clip is a mood piece. This page is the recap so you do not have to reconstruct the press release from quote tweets.
Who is making it
Iceflake Studios develops. Paradox Interactive publishes. The LEGO Group licenses. Iceflake is a Finnish Paradox studio (acquired 2020) known for Surviving the Aftermath and, as of late 2025, for taking over Cities: Skylines II. Game director Lasse Liljedahl framed LEGO Skylines as the team’s chance to combine lifelong LEGO fandom with management-sim craft. That quote is in the press release, not a podcast rumor.
What the leak got right
In May 2026, Korea’s GRAC listing named LEGO Skylines under Paradox. Outlets guessed a brick city-builder. They were right about publisher, genre, and the Skylines adjacency. They could not have known the standalone FAQ line, the Switch 2 SKU, or the cozy tone. Treat May pieces as archaeology; treat August pages as canon.
What the FAQ locked in
- Not a Cities: Skylines DLC.
- Not Cities: Skylines III.
- Single-player city-builder (store listings).
- PEGI 3, ESRB Everyone.
- Languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Korean, Japanese, Polish, Latin American Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese.
- Customization: “well, everything,” with more in future videos.
- DLC: paid and free planned, undescribed.
- Price: later.
- System requirements: later.
- Pre-orders: not yet.
The review preview argues about whether that package is enough to wishlist. The guides hub teaches the loop inside the package.
What the booth was
Official shorts asked people to stop by the LEGO booth at gamescom. That is a physical presence, not a downloadable demo. If you did not fly to Cologne, you did not miss a Steam branch. You missed a booth photo.
Four days later, on the IGN stage
On 29 August 2026 Liljedahl and Liikanen sat with IGN. They named XP, police, one-building-at-a-time construction, and talking to minifigures through endgame. That recap lives on the interview page. It does not change Opening Night Live. It changes how we teach how to build.
What to watch next
Customization diaries. A date. A price. A gameplay minute that is not the same 43 seconds. Those four items will move how to build, release date, and requirements. Until they exist, the announcement is complete and small. That is allowed. Wishlist if the toy clicked. Read how to wishlist if you have not picked a store.
Keep the leak and the reveal on separate shelves. May 2026 told you the name. August 2026 told you the fantasy, the platforms, the age rating, and the standalone line. Everything else — BrickLink, story mode, mods — is still a maybe. When a diary lands, this recap does not need a rewrite; how to build does. Bookmark the FAQ URL from links so you are not arguing with a Discord pin in six months.
The announcement also told you who the game is for: adult players, easy for families, PEGI 3. That audience note is as important as the platform list. It is why we rank parks next to power and why we refuse to import a traffic bible from Cities: Skylines II on day one of this wiki.
