LEGO Skylines City Types

Beautiful, weird, or yours — three official slogans turned into save-file plans.

City Types

Paradox already wrote the tier list of fantasies. Make it beautiful. Make it weird. Make it yours. The press kit then names two concrete cities: a cultural capital with museums and arenas, and a bakery town with donuts from your own wheat. This page ranks those save files by how well they fit a first city, not by which one is “best.”

Pick one before you open the walkthrough. Switching fantasies mid-street is how you get a museum next to a raw field and hate both.

S — Cozy first town (beautiful, small)

The announcement wants this. One plot, first house, park, shop, working triad. Low skyline. High decoration. Family-friendly, PEGI 3 energy. It teaches how to play without demanding a production chain. If you only have one launch-night hour, this is the save.

A — Farm-and-donut town (weird, productive)

Wheat for donuts is the sentence that made the internet smile. It is also a loop: field, road, bakery, shop, happy minifigures. Official farm-town art exists, which is more than we can say for most genres’ jokes. Commit to edge-of-map production so the main street stays photogenic. Services still S-tier; farms do not replace water. See services.

A — Fingerprint city (yours, decoration-heavy)

This is the Iceflake quote in save form. Spend clicks on palettes, clutter, and lots that do not match. Ignore efficiency YouTubers. Identity is the product. Risk: you stall the rating if you decorate before the triad. Method is on how to build.

B — Cultural capital (beautiful, late)

Museums, arenas, a skyline that looks like a postcard. Official, but gated by growth language. Start as a cozy town, then spend unlocks on culture instead of a second bakery. If you force arenas on street two, you will have a landmark in a power cut.

B — Weird skyline (height as personality)

The trailer loves tall plastic. Unlimited space is the slogan. A skyline-first save is valid and harder, because every extra floor is a service question we cannot answer yet. Leave pads. Mix one weird roof on street one so the identity is there without the density.

C — Cities: Skylines import (the trap)

Huge beltways, industry districts, eight-lane traffic, and a spreadsheet. That is a different game Iceflake also works on. Importing it into LEGO Skylines on announcement week is how you miss the toy. If the first diary reveals deep traffic, we will promote this row. Not today.

How to choose in sixty seconds

  • Playing beside a kid: cozy first town.
  • You remember actual LEGO City sets: farm-and-donut or fingerprint.
  • You want screenshots of monuments: cultural capital, but after street three.
  • You want to test Iceflake’s sim chops: wait for a diary, then maybe the import trap becomes a real build.

Write the choice at the top of your city planner checklist. The planner does not pick for you; it stops you from placing a museum in a town that still needs a park. Sibling ranks: buildings for the pieces, services for the rules. The type is the mood. Keep it.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers while LEGO Skylines is still in the wishlist window.

What is the best city type for a beginner?

A small cozy town. It matches the official first-plot loop on how to play.

Can I mix farm town and cultural capital?

Later, yes. First hour, no. Pick a street identity, then spend unlocks on the other.

Is a huge metropolis viable?

The slogan says unlimited space. Viability is unproven. Grow from one neighborhood as the walkthrough does.

Which type uses the Ice Tower?

Any skyline-heavy save. It is a newsletter landmark, not a town square piece — DLC.
